Tejano Roots Hall of Fame

Gus Garza of Bailando en Tejas has been inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame. Garza was invited this year by Tejano R.O.O.T.S., Inc. to be immortalized in the Tejano Music Hall of Fame Museum in Alice, Texas.

"Gus Garza with KPFT/PBS said he was honored for the recognition of broadcast,
but it was his mentors that should recieve the award.
"I'm just overwhelmed," said Garza, from Houston, as his eyes became teary. "It's on behalf of my teachers that tought me this, like Beto Villa and musiciains that died, that if it weren't for them . . . when you talk to me about culture, it touches my heart."

Garza can be heard from Michigan to California as his two-hour program in on the Internet. The induction ceremony, since its inception six years ago, has attracted musicians and theri fans from across the nation. "(Alice-Echo news)


Tejano R.O.O.T.S., Inc. is a non-profit organization chartered in 1999, that established the Tejano Music Hall of fame Museum to preserve, maintain, promote, and display historical documents, artifacts, and audio and video recordings of the Tejano Music industry and heritage.

Garza’s life-time contributions to Tejano music industry as a radio announcer, and local club emcee won him a place in Tejano Music’s hall of fame. His show, Bailando en Tejas, airs every Saturday from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. Along with Abel Solis, his partner on the airwaves, Garza is known for his vast knowledge of Tejano music and ability to take the listener through an audible tour of Tejano history, culture, values and social issues.
